Luau in Lahaina

20 March 2019

After a lazy morning we packed up and headed over to Lahaina. We stopped at the Cool Cat Cafe in Old Lahaina for lunch. The portions were huge! Most everything was quite tasty although the onion rings were apparently lacking in flavour. After filling our tummies we did a bit of shopping then headed more north to the Kaanapali Beach Club Resort for the Huaka’i Luau Maui – Journey Through Polynesia. We arrived early, which turned out to be a good thing. We were at the head of the line and had a nice section of wall to sit on. Five minutes after the suggested time to show up…the line was loooong! When the place opened we got our picture taken, checked in, grabbed a drink then were seated at long tables with a good view of the stage. And don’t forget about the shell leis!

We were first invited to the imu to see them unwrap the pig. Our pig was already portioned so, after a Hawaiian prayer, we were invited to the buffet tables. There were lots of food options so everyone was able to find something. Phaedre made the kids try poi and the expressions were priceless. After dinner the show started. The dancers did dances from each of the Hawaiian islands and Tahiti. At one point audience members were invited up for the Tahitian dance and Talon was chosen. Hip shaking is harder than it looks! The fire dancer was excellent and the show ended with one last dance. After that we headed back to the condo and were ready for bed.
