Shinkansen to Sendai

Up before the sun at 5:30 am I had a relaxing morning aside from the world news discussing north Korea. We grabbed some toast and an egg as our included breakfast and then did a 6 minute walk to the station. We grabbed lunch for the very quick 3 hour, 505 km trip to Sendai which included 1 train change, the under water tunnel and 7 other stops. We navigated our way to the subway in Sendai and after a one stop trip managed to walk the opposite direction from our motel which turned it into a 25 min walk instead of a 8 min walk. It was hot! After settling into the hotel we walked back to the train station the short way and went into the covered market street, Sunmall, which was huge. Our shopping included 2 stops at Choco Cro, our favourite coffee snack place, and then a short walk to the main station where we got our train tickets for Friday and returned an adult Suica pass we had bought by mistake. In line at the train station Jennifer had a 10 min conversation with a young looking 75 year old man that lived 200 km north of Sendai in Morioka. He had never been to Canada but knew of Vancouver. We talked a bit about Canada, Japan, Kyoto and what we had done so far in Sendai and travelling. We then made our way back to the hotel with a few stops along the way. We discovered a German restaurant with a mix of food and great dark stout beer. The appetizer plate had pickled octopus and chicken gizzard. Kim tried the octopus but ended up eating all the chicken gizzard. The waitress had a different accent so it was a bit difficult to understand her Japanese.
After a short walk to the hotel both of us went down to the bath for a needed soak. The tub could easily hold 10 people and there were many fancy bath products to use. Kim retired early at around 8 while Jennifer caught up on news and read for awhile.
